Below is a summary of events in the Commonwealth of Independent States on April 28:

Armenia:

* Armenia plans to boost cooperation with NATO under the Partnership for Peace program, Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian said

Georgia:

* The Russian Prosecutor General's Office has officially asked Georgia to extradite Jr. Sgt. Alexander Glukhov, a Russian soldier facing charges of desertion, a spokeswoman said

* About 90 Chechens living in Georgia have requested refugee status since January to allow them to return to Chechnya, the head of the Russian republic's migration department said

* The Georgian opposition, which has been holding protests since April 9 demanding the country's president resign, collected around $3,000 in donations over two days in the capital, the Conservative Party said

Kazakhstan:

* Kazakhstan has begun mining uranium at a new field in the south of the country with a production capacity of 750 metric tons annually, the national nuclear power company said

Kyrgyzstan:

* The Kyrgyz authorities banned imports of meat from the United States and Mexico over swine flu fears, veterinary officials said

Ukraine:

* Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko said the national energy company Energoatom could sign a nuclear fuel deal with Russia, but has set several conditions, the Kommersant Ukrainy business daily reported
