MOSCOW, May 12 (RIA Novosti) - Thailand and Cuba have
joined the list of 30 countries, which have reported cases of
human А/H1N1 infection, local media said on Tuesday.
The А/H1N1 swine flu infection has been confirmed in a
Thai patient, who has already recovered and discharged from
hospital, the Bangkok Post newspaper said citing Deputy Prime
Minister Sanan Kachornprasart, who heads the swine-flu
prevention task force. The official did not give any further
details.
Cuba's Juventud Rebelde online newspaper said a Mexican
medical student, who had returned to the island after a visit
home, has tested positive for the swine flu virus.
The World Health Organization has reported 4,694 confirmed
swine flu cases worldwide as of Monday. Of the 53 deaths, 48
occurred in Mexico, three in the U.S., one in Canada and one in
Costa Rica.
At least one А/H1N1 human infection has been confirmed in
Argentina, Australia, Austria, Brazil, China, Colombia,
Denmark, El Salvador, France, Germany, Guatemala, Ireland,
Israel, Italy, Japan, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway,
Panama, Poland, Portugal, South Korea, Spain, Sweden,
Switzerland and the U.K.
Despite the dramatic media reports that accompanied the
recent outbreak of swine flu, leading scientists say the virus
is a mild strain and only a further mutation could make it a
serious threat. Swine flu deaths in Mexico, the worst hit by
the virus, are around average for seasonal flu fatalities.
