MOSCOW, May 20 (RIA Novosti) - Istanbul's Sukru Saracoglu Stadium hosts the last ever UEFA Cup final on Wednesday evening as Ukraine's Shakhtar Donetsk look to overcome Germany's Werder Bremen to win their first European trophy. The UEFA Cup will be revamped next season as the Europa League, and the Ukrainian side are seeking to add their name to a long list of winners that began with Tottenham Hotspur in 1972. "I'm sure we'll see an exciting game between teams with two different styles," Shakhtar coach Mircea Lucescu told UEFA. "Bremen are always attack-minded, they are a very physical team. Our style is based on our skill, which we'll try to use to take control of the game." "We have to be assertive," Werder trainer Thomas Schaff said. "A final is never easy and we're happy to face this challenge." Shakhtar have defeated Tottenham, CSKA Moscow, Marseille and Dynamo Kiev in the knockout stages, while Werder have beaten AC Milan, St Etienne, Udinese and SV Hamburg. The match kicks off at 9:45 p.m. (18:45 GMT). More news |
