NAZRAN, January 31 (RIA Novosti) - A congress of the
Ingush people opened Saturday in Nazran, the largest city in
Russia's North Caucasus republic of Ingushetia.
Ingush President Yunus-Bek Yevkurov said at the opening
ceremony: "The main thing we should pay attention to is
stabilization of the social-political situation and countering
corruption."
He said instability in the region was connected to
people's distrust in the authorities and called on the
republic's residents to help him fight corruption, urging
spiritual leaders to increase their efforts as well.
Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said Saturday he hoped
the congress would help achieve public accord in the republic
as well as will strengthen the unity of the peoples of the
North Caucasus and the rest of Russia.
