MOSCOW, May 25 (RIA Novosti) - The Russian
president's spokeswoman issued a statement on Monday condemning
North Korea's underground nuclear bomb test, and calling it a
direct violation of UN Security Council resolution 1718.
Pyongyang announced the bomb test earlier on Monday, and
South Korean media said three surface-to-air missiles were
launched soon afterwards. The tremor from the underground
nuclear blast was confirmed in several countries.
"North Korea's underground nuclear test in a region
bordering the Russian Federation... is a cause of deep regret
and the most serious concern," Natalia Timakova said.
She warned that the test would have a negative impact on
international non-proliferation efforts.
