Police officer shot dead in Russia's North Caucasus

MAKHACHKALA, May 26 (RIA Novosti) - A police officer was found dead on Tuesday in his car in Russia's North Caucasus republic of Daghestan, a local Interior Ministry spokesman said.

The body was discovered in the Kizilyurt district, northwest of the republic's capital, Makhachkala. "The policeman had been shot dead," the spokesman said.

An investigation is underway.
