KHANTY-MANSIISK, February 3 (RIA Novosti) - Five people were killed and six injured when two cars collided head-on in West Siberia's Khanty-Mansi Autnomous Area, an emergencies ministry spokesman said on Tuesday. He said the accident involving a Lada and a UAZ-31622 off-road vehicle occurred late Monday, adding that special cutting equipment was used to free the injured. Russia has a poor road safety record with more than 25,000 people killed in road accidents annually. In a separate accident, three people died and three more were injured in a two-car pile up in the Chelyabinsk Region in the Urals. A local emergencies ministry spokesman said the driver of a Nissan car lost control on a slippery road and collided head-on with a Lada car. The two drivers and a Nissan passenger died instantly. Three people, including a six-year-old girl were rushed to hospital with various injuries. More news |
