URGENT: Russia will not make its soil available for U.S. missile defenses

MOSCOW, June 11 (RIA Novosti) - Russia will not help the U.S. build military systems aimed against itself and will not make available its territory for the deployment of U.S. missile defense elements, a Foreign Ministry spokesman said on Thursday.

Commenting on U.S. Defense Secretary Robert Gates' proposal that U.S. missile defense sites be deployed on Russian soil, Andrei Nesterenko said there could be no partnership "in building facilities that are essentially designed to counter Russia's strategic deterrence forces."
