MAKHACHKALA, June 21 (RIA Novosti) - Two militants
were killed in a shootout with police in Russia's North
Caucasus Republic of Daghestan, a spokesman for the republican
Interior Ministry said on Sunday.
The incident occurred late on Saturday when unidentified
persons opened automatic fire on interior troops on the edge of
the village of Kakamakhi in the republic's Karabudakhkent
district, some 30 km (19 miles) south of the capital
Makhachkala, the spokesman said.
"There are no casualties among the personnel. By
retaliation fire, two bandits have been killed. Their identity
is being established," the spokesman said.
Militant attacks and clashes remain common in Russia's
North Caucasus, although the Kremlin campaign to fight
separatists and terrorists in Chechnya has officially ended.
Violence often spills over into nearby republics, in particular
Ingushetia and Daghestan.
