The Central Bank of Russia will stop printing ten-ruble notes next year these will only be withdrawn from circulation gradually, CB First Deputy Chairman Georgy Luntovsky told a press conference.
"We'll not be printing any more ten-ruble notes from next year. We destroy any that we get back," Luntovsky said, adding that the notes would remain in circulation as long as they are needed.
Banknotes like this usually become unfit for tender after half a year, he said. "But all circumstances need to be considered," he said. People are still turning 5-ruble notes into the CB, another bank official said.
