Fines Raised for Motorists

Starting July 1, 2012, Russia has raised the penalties for motor vehical violations. Fines for illegal parking in Moscow and Saint-Petersburg will have been raised to up to 3,000 rubles.
Penalties will be raised in other regions of Russia as well. Non-compliance with traffic signs and road markings will cost approximately 1,500 rubles; a fine for parking in the a crosswalk (and within five meters of it) has grown from 300 to 1,000 rubles; blocking a tramway track will cost 1,500 rubles.
