February the 23rd is celebrated as a national holiday of Defender’s Day of Motherland. Today the citizens of Russian Federation commemorate those, who served or serve in the ranks of Armed Forces of the country, however the majority of citizens consider this day a holiday of real men and defenders in the broadest sense of the word. The minister of Defense of Russia Sergey Shoigu congratulated military servicemen and veterans.
On Defender’s Day of Motherland the head of Defense of Russian Federation Sergey Shoigu addressed to military servicemen and veterans. According to the head of the department, this is a national holiday, that reflects genuine respect of the society to the people in shoulder straps and acknowledgement of services of Russian Army.
“ On this day we commemorate those, who serve in the Army, secure sovereignty and safety of the country, we think of our fellow countrymen, who fearlessly stood against all infringements to independence of Motherland”, - cites the text of Sergey Shoigu’s message on the website of Defense establishment.
The head of Defense expressed his special gratitude to the Second World War veterans, who liberated the world from fascist aggressors. “With their courage, selflessness and indestructible fortitude they set us an example of true patriotism, inspired to new achievements for the love of Motherland”, - observed the minister.
He added, that current generation of defenders of Motherland suitably carry on sacred military traditions of their predecessors. “ Improving battlecraft, mastering modern weaponry and techniques servicemen of Russian Army reliably fight for national hand, successfully solving problems with combating international terrorism”, - said Shoigu.
Today at 21.00 local time in commemoration of Day of Defenders of Motherland the head of Defense decreeded to perform fireworks with the assistance of military units of Armed Forces of Russia in Moscow and hero-cities of Volgograd, Kerch, Murmansk, Novorossiysk, Saint-Petersburg (hero-city Leningrad), Sevastopol, Smolensk, Tula and other cities, where headquarters’ staff, navy, all-arms army and Caspian Fleet are dislocated.
Let us remind that in December 2001 State Duma of Russian Federation welcomed a suggestion of making February the 23rd – Day of Defenders of Motherland – a public holiday day-off.
