Over 30 kg of heroin found on banana ship in St. Petersburg

MOSCOW, January 22 (RIA Novosti) - Police in Russia's second-largest city of St. Petersburg have seized 32 kilograms (70.5 lbs) of heroin from a ship carrying bananas from Ecuador, the Federal Customs Service said on Thursday.

The drugs were discovered "under the floor of the hold" of the Saint Vincent-flagged vessel.

In late December, customs officers seized 4.2 kilograms of cocaine from a ship that had also arrived in St. Petersburg from Ecuador.
