ST. PETERSBURG, March 11 (RIA Novosti) - Russia's
Federal Security Services (FSB) seized 958 kg (2,204 lbs.) of
hashish in a major drug ring crackdown, an FSB spokesman said
on Wednesday.
"A large amount of narcotics with a total weight of 958
kilograms was confiscated," the spokesman told RIA Novosti,
adding: "Several people have been detained, and an
investigation is continuing."
Most of the heroin and hashish coming into Russia
originates in Afghanistan and is then trafficked through the
former Soviet republics of Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. Most of
the drugs are then sold in Russia's largest cities, or shipped
on to Europe.
