CHISINAU, April 7 (RIA Novosti) - Dorin Chirtoaca,
the leader of the Moldovan Liberal Party, rejected on Tuesday
an agreement with the authorities on a recount of parliamentary
election ballots and instead demanded a fresh vote.
Chirtoaca addressed his supporters on a square in central
Chisinau, calling on them to stay until a new election is held.
Protests began in Chisinau on Monday, following the
Communist Party's victory in Sunday's parliamentary polls, and
turned violent on Tuesday.
The presidential administration said earlier in the day
that the authorities and the opposition had agreed to a recount
and vowed to do everything possible to stop the violence, which
has left hundreds of people injured.
