(Recasts, adds info in para 5) KABUL, May 20 (RIA Novosti) - At least two policemen were killed in a suicide bombing outside an administrative building in the southern Afghan province of Kandahar, the local police chief said on Wednesday. A militant detonated an explosive-laden car outside the entrance to the Arghandab district administration. A total of 10 people were wounded in the attack - seven policemen, including a district police chief, and three civilians. Some of those injured are in a critical condition. Taliban militants have increased their activity in Afghanistan ahead of the presidential elections scheduled for August 20. In response, the Afghan army and NATO have launched a military operation in southern Afghanistan to provide additional security. Fatalities were also reported in a separate attack on a NATO convoy near the Afghan capital Kabul, when an armored vehicle was blown up. Police in Kabul said a foreign national and an Afghan were killed. More news |
