MINSK, June 8 (RIA Novosti) - The Belarusian president said on Monday cooperation with the EU was not some game but part of a strategic plan. "What we have with our Western neighbor is not some sort of game. It's the implementation of our long-standing strategic course," Alexander Lukashenko said. He added the EU was just as important a partner for Belarus as Russia. "[the volume of] Trade with the EU is the same as with Russia. The EU is about technology, credit resources, and investment, and so we will work to strengthen this vector," he said. Following the Council of Europe recent move to restore Belarus's special guest status, the organization decided to open an information office in Minsk to provide the Belarusian public information about CE program and projects, in particular human rights, the abolition of the death penalty, promotion of democracy and democratic values.
