EU, Council of Europe officials to visit Abkhazia next week

SUKHUMI, February 5 (RIA Novosti) - High-ranking officials from the Council of Europe and the European Union will pay a visit to Georgia's breakaway republic of Abkhazia next week, a source in the Abkhazian foreign ministry said on Thursday.

The Council of Europe's Commissioner for Human Rights Thomas Hammarberg will visit the republic on February 9-11. The exact program for his visit and any possible meetings with the Abkhazian leadership has yet to be agreed.

On Monday, February 9, EU Special Representative for the Southern Caucasus Peter Semneby is also due to visit the region.
