Field tax inspections currently being carried out are 100% effective, claims Tatyana Shevtsova, the Deputy Head of the Federal Tax Service (FTS.) She attributes this to the fact that tax authorities prepare their inspections carefully and only carry them out in cases where there is definite criteria necessitating them.
Shevtsova said that, out of the 8 million taxpaying companies registered in the Russian Federation, inspections were carried out in only 62,000 of them, or 0.7% of the total, in the last nine months of 2009. Shevtsova added that, for example, among countries that are members of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), 3% of taxpayers are subject to field tax inspections.
