Dmitry Medvedev Simplifies Work Permit Procedure for Employers

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev signed a law that annuls the requirement for employers to transfer funds to a specialized bank account that would be used to guarantee the departure from Russia of a foreign employee.

Article 18 of the Law “On the Legal Status of Foreign Citizens in the Russian Federation” previously had required this as a precondition for issuing work permits to foreign workers.

The requirement was recognized as ineffective and thus done away with.

The law “Concerning the Annulment of Certain Acts of Legislation of the Russian Federation” was passed by the State Duma on December 22, 2010 and approved by the Federation Council on December 24, 2010.
