Visa-Free Foreigners May Need Personal Tax Number to Receive Work Permit

The government committee for legislative drafting activities approved a draft bill presented by the Federal Migration Service “On Introducing Changes to the Federal Law ‘Concerning the Legal Status of Foreign Citizens in the Russian Federation.”

This amendment will obligate foreign citizens arriving from countries with visa-free regimes to obtain a Personal Tax Number (PTN) in the process of applying for a work permit.

Foreign citizens will be able to obtain a PTN through the offices of the tax inspectorate as well as through the offices of the Federal Migration Service. Migration documents and applications for obtaining PTN should be processed within 3 days.
