Russian officials embezzled $25.6 mln from state in 2008

MOSCOW, February 12 (RIA Novosti) - Russian officials embezzled more than 900 million rubles ($25.6 million) in state funds last year, the head of the Prosecutor General's Investigation Committee said on Thursday.

"Among the people who have been put on trial are staff with the Interior Ministry and Customs service, public prosecution officers, municipality officials and high-ranking government officials," Alexander Bastrykin said.
