BEIJING, February 17 (RIA Novosti) - The Shanghai
Cooperation Organization (SCO) is considering Iran's bid to
become a full member of the regional security bloc, a SCO
source said on Tuesday.
The SCO comprises Russia, China, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan,
Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan. Russia took over the presidency of
the organization last August. Iran, India, Mongolia and
Pakistan have observer status within the organization.
"The consideration of Tehran's bid is going according to
standard procedures. I think that a decision on the issues
could be announced at a SCO summit in Yekaterinburg [Russia] in
June," the source said.
