CHITA, March 16 (RIA Novosti) - A court in an East
Siberian town has sanctioned the arrest of a man who fired
shots at a school when drunk last Friday, wounding a policeman,
a local deputy prosecutor said on Monday.
Anatoly Uskov said that Igor Prostakishin, 20, entered the
school in the town of Shilka in the Transbaikal Territory,
carrying a hunting rifle. He fired several shots without
injuring any children, and after leaving the building shot at a
police officer.
"Being drunk, he opened fire in the lobby, and then went
to the second floor to a classroom of six-graders with 18
students. He forced them to barricade the door with desks, and
ordered them to stand on the tables, telling them he would not
harm children, and waited for the police," Uskov said.
When the police arrived, Prostakishin broke a window and
jumped out onto the street, breaking his leg. He then fired
shots at the officers who tried to detain him, wounding one of
them in the chest.
After arresting the attacker, police seized his rifle,
along with a hunting knife and a large stash of ammunition.
Uskov said a criminal case has been launched against
Prostakishin on charges of the attempted murder of a police
officer.
