MOSCOW, March 18 (RIA Novosti) - The leader of
Transdnestr said on Wednesday he had suggested to Moldova that
they hold bilateral talks in the disputed region in March.
"I reiterated to [Moldovan President Vladimir] Voronin
that my proposal to meet in March still stands," Igor Smirnov
said.
Voronin, who has proposed giving Transdnestr autonomy
within Moldova, earlier suggested holding talks in Moldova's
capital, Chisinau.
The previous round of long-delayed talks, that was due in
September 2008, was cancelled as the parties to the frozen
post-Soviet conflict could not agree on a venue. The Moldovan
and Transdnestrian leaders last met in April in the breakaway
region.
