Ministry of Industry and Trade: industrial growth this year might reach 2%

23.01.2017

Industrial production in Russia is coming to growth path, and this year growth impact will be chemical and fabric industries, and also engineering.

The information that the Ministry of Industry and Trade is expecting recovery growth in most sectors was reported to “Izvestiya” by deputy Head of the establishment Vasiliy Osmakov. According to him, generally, industrial growth might reach 2%.

This forecast is more optimistic comparing with the evaluations of the Ministry of Economic Development, where they are speaking of 1,2% in growth of engineering.

As said deputy Minister, at MIT in 2017 are expecting not only growth extension, but its acceleration. “Without outer shocks, we can bargain for the continuation of industrial growth. The growth rate of industrial production in 2017 might amount to 1,6-2%. Reaching the point of 2% is quite possible”, - said V.Osmakov.

According to him, this year with most significant rates – not less than 4% - will grow chemical and fabric industries. “Over recent years, in chemical industry huge investments were made, new production sites were being actively put into operation. In this sphere the policy of import phase-out is successfully realized”, - informed deputy Head of MIT.

As for Russian fabric production, after ruble devaluation Russian goods of textile industry got additional competitive advantage. Here played its role the effect of import phase-out, because fall of import has opened new opportunities for domestic manufacturers.

According to Osmakov’s evaluations, in 2017 is expected an intensive growth in the sectors where consumer and investment demand is being recovered. This, for instance, is production of vehicles, construction materials and durable goods.

MIT count on engineering. However, the success in this direction will depend on whether the companies in the sector use the situation for developing domestic market and export.

Also, MIT count on continuation of growth in agricultural engineering production and food engineering, because these industries place significant demand.

“In the first place we are counting on attracting of investors to the engineering sector taking into account that, there is a huge need in the replacement of oil and gas machine-building equipment”, - said to “Izvestiya” the Head of MIT Denis Manturov. – That’s why these sectors will be actively developed this year. Based on recently made decision we want to separately recreate a new industry – food engineering. Today, dependence on imported equipment in this sector is more than 80%. That’s why we are inviting investors to this sector.”

The fact that output of Russian industry on a growth trajectory is obvious also highlights chief of laboratory of market issues at Institute of Gaidar´s Economic Policy Sergey Tzukhlo. He thinks that Russian industry enterprises in January are in a positive mood, and industrial growth will happen this year, though it won’t be significant. “All data proves that. Either the growth of 1,1,% predicted by Ministry of Economic Development or 2% predicted by MIT will surely happen, but it is now too early to speak about it definitely, but the tendency to recovery is obvious”, - said S.Tzukhlo.
